Senior Electrical Engineer
Metric Bio is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who will serve as a technical leader within the engineering team. This role involves leading new product development programs, focusing on electrical engineering and embedded firmware development, and ensuring effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership on new product development programs, including requirements definition, concept design, proof-of-concept evaluation, detailed design, verification testing, and production transfer
Partner with management to support project planning, schedules, and budget estimates
Develop electrical architectures, technical specifications, schematics, PCB designs, and functional test plans to ensure reliable product performance and compliance with applicable standards (e.g., EMC/EMI considerations)
Evaluate supplier components and specifications for suitability within product designs
Design and develop embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems controlling electromechanical subsystems
Generate complete manufacturing documentation, including schematics, assembly and test procedures, test fixtures, drawings, inspection plans, and purchased-part documentation
Troubleshoot production and field issues for both new and legacy products
Lead and guide support engineering resources to ensure successful project execution
Create and manage engineering change requests while preserving product performance and integrity
Support downstream teams (product support, sales, marketing) with product training, technical documentation, and issue resolution
Mentor and develop junior engineers both technically and professionally
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent)
10+ years of experience in electrical design of complex products, including schematic capture, PCB design, and board layout
5+ years of embedded firmware development experience using C, C++, Python, or similar languages
Hands-on experience with microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM, AVR, PIC)
Familiarity with embedded IDEs such as Keil, IAR, MPLAB, or similar
Strong background in analog and digital circuit design, including signal processing concepts
5+ years of experience planning and technically leading complex product development programs
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-level thinking skills
Ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts and communicate effectively across disciplines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Coursework or exposure to life sciences, biomedical engineering, or scientific instrumentation
Experience working in regulated or highly reliability-driven product environments
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering documentation tools
