Windows/Linux Systems and Security Administrator (Infrastructure Specialist 3)
The Ohio Department of Administrative Services is seeking an experienced hybrid systems administrator and security position responsible for identifying and responding to security concerns across various platforms. The role involves managing Windows/Linux systems, overseeing virtualization platforms, and implementing security measures to ensure efficient operations.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Manage Windows/Linux operating systems hosting applications, databases, and services
Administer OS container technologies (Podman, Docker, Kubernetes) for application deployment
Configure and maintain packages, services, and system configurations
Implement system hardening and compliance standards
Utilize and monitor Solarwinds and FortiGate security systems
Perform basic network configuration (IPv4, firewalls) for Systems
Monitor system health and performance; troubleshoot and remediate issues
Execute enterprise backup and recovery procedures
Manage disaster recovery strategies for Systems deployments
Utilize automation tools for build, deployment, configuration state, and event-driven remediation
Administer VMware environments including vCenter, VM templates, cloning, snapshots, and provisioning
Configure virtual hardware resources (datastores, distributed switches, CPU/memory/IO)
Use VMware SDK and PowerCLI for automation and scripting
Apply best practices in software development for infrastructure automation
Maintain high-quality, maintainable code with strong design principles
Utilize GitHub and Git for source code management, branching, merging, and CI/CD
Participate in Agile/Scrum processes (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming)
Develop infrastructure-as-code solutions for configuration and deployment
Qualification
Required
60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating effectiveness and risk of it processes, recommending changes in IT procedures to meet customer needs, and evaluating and/or researching hardware and/or software solutions and providing feedback to project team or higher-level staff including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting
Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating effectiveness and risk of it processes, recommending changes in IT procedures to meet customer needs, and evaluating and/or researching hardware and/or software solutions and providing feedback to project team or higher-level staff including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting
Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating effectiveness and risk of it processes, recommending changes in IT procedures to meet customer needs, and evaluating and/or researching hardware and/or software solutions and providing feedback to project team or higher-level staff including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting
Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above
