Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities
Manage daily laboratory operations, ensuring organization, safety, and efficiency
Maintain compliance with IACUC and institutional biosafety regulations
Manage laboratory records, budgets, and procurement of equipment, reagents, and supplies
Ensure proper documentation of experimental procedures and animal protocols
Train laboratory staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students in experimental design, animal handling, and surgical procedures
Develop and maintain standard laboratory operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols
Provide technical guidance and support to research team members
Promote collaborative research practices and knowledge sharing
Design, conduct, and oversee rodent studies related to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases
Perform and train others in cardiac and vascular and reproductive surgeries, including, Cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury models. Coronary and vascular ligation or occlusion, atherosclerosis models (e.g., ApoE⁻/⁻, LDLR⁻/⁻), syngeneic models of endometriosis and other survival surgeries and post-operative care
Conduct and coordinate metabolic testing, including glucose and insulin tolerance tests, lipid profiling, and body composition analysis
Perform physiological measurements such as echocardiography, ECG , blood pressure monitoring, and telemetry
Utilize in vivo imaging techniques (ultrasound, optical, or PET imaging) for assessment of cardiac and metabolic function
Manage all aspects of mouse colony operations, including breeding, weaning, recordkeeping, and animal census tracking
Coordinate with veterinary staff to ensure animal health and welfare
Perform genotyping and PCR -based assays, interpret results, and maintain genotype databases
Develop breeding strategies to maintain and expand transgenic and knockout lines critical for research studies
Coordinate experimental design, data collection, quality control, and statistical analysis
Support preparation of research reports, grant submissions, and manuscripts
Facilitate collaborations with investigators across cardiometabolic and women’s health research programs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree. In lieu of educational requirements, experience may be substituted on a 2:1 ratio (2 years of experience for each year of education)
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on laboratory research experience in cardiovascular, metabolic, or related biomedical research
Proficiency in rodent surgery techniques, including cardiac and vascular procedures
Experience with metabolic phenotyping methods (glucose/insulin tolerance tests, body composition analysis)
Knowledge of physiological measurement techniques (echocardiography, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, telemetry)
Competency in colony management, breeding strategies, and genotyping procedures
Familiarity with in-vivo imaging techniques (ultrasound, optical, or PET imaging)
Strong understanding of experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis
Knowledge of IACUC regulations and animal welfare standards
Understanding of institutional biosafety protocols and laboratory safety practices
Experience with regulatory compliance documentation and record-keeping
Preferred
AALAS certification (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician or higher)
Demonstrate experience with rodent models and animal handling procedures
