Robotics Lab Technician (Hardware & 3d-Printing)
Stealth Robotics Startup is a company founded by Stanford alumni building foundational AI models for robot control. The Robotics Lab Technician will ensure the smooth operation of the robot lab by maintaining equipment, managing inventory, and supporting the lab's day-to-day functions.
Industrial Automation
Responsibilities
Robot hardware upkeep & repairs: Replace or repair common wear/break items (gripper fingers, mounting plates, 3D-printed parts, cables, connectors) and verify systems are ready to run
Cabling & basic wiring: Route and secure workcell cabling, build new power and signal cables for grippers, I/O, and industrial components, keep systems clean, safe, and serviceable; perform basic cable replacements and tidy-ups
Mechanical assembly: build conveyors, brackets, fixtures, and other mechanical components, workbenches and parts cabinets as required
3D printing operations: Maintain printers (calibration, cleaning, consumables), run print jobs, and ensure printed parts meet quality requirements
Inventory & spares management: Own spares, tools, and consumables; track stock levels; proactively reorder to avoid downtime; maintain clean storage and labeling
Lab organization: Maintain a clean, organized lab/workcell environment; drive 'everything has a place' discipline and continuous improvement
Basic workcell builds: Assist in building new systems to spec (mechanical assembly, mounting, fixtures, basic setup and verification)
SOPs & documentation: Follow and improve SOPs for pulling parts, logging usage, updating BOMs/configs, and tracking repairs/maintenance
Light CAD / design support (optional but valuable): Modify or create simple 3D models for print-ready parts and fixtures
Safety support: Assist with safety procedures, checklists, risk assessments, and keeping safety equipment and signage current
Vendor coordination: Help manage deliveries, returns, and vendor interactions for tools/parts/equipment as needed
Occasional weekend overtime work (maximum one day per weekend), balanced with flexible scheduling and time off during the week
Qualification
Required
1+ year experience in a hands-on technical role (lab tech, robotics/automation tech, maker space, manufacturing/assembly, hardware support, or similar) or strong demonstrable hands-on projects
Comfortable using basic hand tools (drills, drivers, hex keys, calipers) and following detailed build/repair instructions
Comfortable using basic electrical tools (DMM, crimpers, ferrules, terminal blocks) and wiring connectors and components
Organized and detail-oriented: can maintain inventory systems, keep documentation accurate, and execute repeatable processes
Ability to lift/move lab items and work around equipment safely (standing, bending, reaching; frequent lifting of ~30–40 lbs)
Clear written communication for logging work, documenting repairs, and escalating issues
3D printing experience (FDM preferred): calibration, material handling, print troubleshooting
Preferred
Experience in robotics labs, automation cells, or R&D environments, comfort working around industrial robots
Comfortable following electrical safety procedures (de-energize/verify, safe routing, LOTO)
Experience creating SOPs, checklists, or maintenance logs
Familiarity with basic cabling (strain relief, cable management best practices)
Basic CAD skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.) and design-for-3D-print understanding
