Responsibilities
Own pricing strategy and profitability for a stop loss program, ensuring target loss ratios and persistency
Lead, coach, and allocate work across a team of underwriters to drive consistent performance
Develop and approve pricing recommendations for new and renewal employer stop loss accounts
Partner closely with sales, program management, brokers, and TPAs to drive top-line growth
Evaluate large claims data, identify medical cost drivers, and consult on plan design and coverage
Make underwriting decisions within authority; escalate exceptions with clear risk analysis and justification
Contribute to underwriting policies, procedures, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
10+ years of medical stop loss underwriting experience
Deep expertise in medical stop loss underwriting and healthcare payer dynamics
Strong leadership presence with the ability to mentor and develop underwriting teams
Advanced analytical, risk management, and pricing skills
Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with sales, brokers, and clients
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
3+ years of underwriting team leadership strongly preferred
