Volunteer Engagement Manager

FamilyWorks Family Resource Center and Food Banks is a food bank and resource center dedicated to nourishing and strengthening individuals and families. The Volunteer Engagement Manager provides strategic leadership for the volunteer program, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and managing volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention across programs.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic oversight of FamilyWorks’ volunteer engagement program (including individual and corporate volunteerism corporate alignment with agency goals, equity commitments, and programmatic needs
Develop, implement, and regularly assess volunteer engagement strategies, policies, and procedures to improve effectiveness, consistency, and impact
Serve as the organizational subject-matter expert on volunteer engagement best practices, trends, and compliance requirements
Lead agency-wide volunteer recruitment efforts, including representing FamilyWorks through outreach, partnerships, and community engagement strategies
Oversee volunteer onboarding, orientation, and training processes to ensure clarity of expectations, safety, and mission alignment
Oversee volunteer recognition and appreciation strategies that support retention, morale, and long-term engagement
Oversee volunteer placement and scheduling systems to ensure appropriate coverage and effective use of volunteer capacity across programs
Together with the Sr. Volunteer Coordinator, provide guidance, and support to volunteers, addressing performance concerns, conflicts, or special circumstances with professionalism and empathy
Partner closely with the Program Leadership Team to assess volunteer needs, develop volunteer roles, and ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into service delivery
Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate partners, serving as the primary point of contact for planning, communication, and follow-up
Collaborate with Programs and Development teams to align corporate volunteer engagement with fundraising, sponsorship, and stewardship strategies
Design and oversee scalable, high-impact corporate volunteer opportunities, including one-time service events, skills-based volunteering, and ongoing group engagements
Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of volunteer records, including hours, compliance documentation, and demographic data
Produce regular reports and analysis on volunteer engagement metrics to support program planning, evaluation, and funder reporting
Strengthen systems for volunteer tracking and communication, leveraging technology to improve efficiency and accessibility
Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for a part-time Sr. Volunteer Coordinator, including goal-setting, workload prioritization, and ongoing professional development
Delegate operational responsibilities appropriately while ensuring accountability, consistency, and alignment with volunteer engagement strategies and organizational standards

Required

Experience coordinating, training, or supervising volunteers, interns, or staff (paid or unpaid)
Demonstrate the initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote anti-racism, cultural competency and an understanding of oppression and its impact
Participate in intentional learning efforts, to understand and dismantle institutional racism and build cultural competency, and to encourage staff to fully engage in those activities
Promote and foster a work environment typified by inclusion, collaboration, transparency, and appreciation
Maintain global awareness regarding organizational status, adjust priorities in ongoing fashion, manage multiple priorities and delegate staff, volunteers, and resources accordingly. High capacity for analytical and inductive thinking
Identify and effectively address core issues and concerns in a variety of situations
Communicate effectively in daily interactions as supervisor as well as in written format and oral presentation
Ability to handle delicate or difficult interpersonal situations effectively and tactfully
Capacity for working effectively with a culturally diverse group of program participants based on dignity and respect, including those experiencing mental illness
Proven ability to de-escalate tense or emotionally charged situations with empathy, professionalism, and effective communication strategies; formal de-escalation training strongly preferred
Be organized, have coordination skills and pay attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Ability to maintain focus in a complex environment
Willingness to proactively seek supervisory input, resources, and information needed to accomplish the job
Must have access to reliable transportation throughout North Seattle
Professional degree required (or equivalent life experience) with 3 to 5 years of related experience in social work or nonprofit program management, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrated supervisory experience that reflects progressive responsibilities in hiring, training, performance management, conflict resolution and disciplinary counseling
Must be able to pass background check

Preferred

Bi-lingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Russian preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications, database entry, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams
