Assistant Controller
Harbour Outdoor is a privately owned retail business serving both B2B and B2C customers. They are seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the company's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient close processes while supporting business growth and multi-channel sales operations.

Responsibilities
Assist with preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Support and manage the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations
Oversee general ledger activities and ensure accuracy across multiple revenue streams (B2B and B2C)
Assist with monitoring and reconciling inventory accounts, including cost of goods sold, shrink, reserves, and inventory adjustments
Ensure proper revenue recognition for retail, wholesale, and contract-based sales
Maintain compliance with GAAP, sales tax regulations, and company accounting policies
Avalara experience helpful
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, including margin and variance analysis
Help develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third parties
Support cash flow management, AR/AP oversight, and working capital optimization
Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff
Participate in system implementations, ERP/POS integrations, and process improvements
Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in retail or distribution
Experience with inventory accounting and multi-channel revenue
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
Experience with ERP, POS, and inventory management systems
Advanced Excel skills; BI/reporting tools a plus
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Excellent communication skills with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset
Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, sales, and leadership
Preferred
Experience with Avalara
Netsuite helpful
Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
