Sr. Mechanical RF/Antenna Engineer

Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of Terawave Payloads, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high performance and manufacturability of RF components and antennas.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end payload component design, from concept through fabrication and testing
Develop and own mechanical requirements, and clearly communicate them to cross-functional partners to drive system development
Perform initial structural and thermal sizing of components
Rapidly iterate on designs through hands-on hardware development, bringing components from concept to rate production
Generate design data, fabrication, and production drawings using GD&T to clearly communicate design intent and ensure low-cost, scalable manufacturability
Drive tolerancing and statistical analysis into designs to meet production and quality targets
Resolve manufacturing issues and work with vendors and internal stakeholders to disposition hardware on the production floor
Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents

Required

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field
7+ Experience working in aerospace, satellite, automotive, or telecom production environment
Experience designing enclosures and/or thermal solutions for high power electronics, high speed electronics, RF electronics, or telecom components
Experience owning all aspects of electromechanical unit level development (design, thermal, structural, assembly, and test)
Experience working with high volume contract manufacturers
Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills - We are looking for leaders
Mechanical design experience using CAD (Creo/Windchill preferred), hand calculations, and FEA (ANSYS preferred) tools
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis (AMSE Y14.5)

Preferred

Demonstrated expertise with any industry standard analysis codes: Ansys, Nastran, Optistruct, LS Dyna, Hypermesh, Hypersizer
Experience doing unit level structural sizing and designing electronics to survive harsh environments
Experience doing unit level thermal design and designing electronics cooling solutions to survive harsh environments
Experience designing and building electromechanical mechanisms
Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41
