Health Care Technician I

The N.C. Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The Health Care Technician I position provides direct care and person-centered support to offenders with complex needs, ensuring their health and safety requirements are met according to regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

Providing direct care and person-centered supports to offenders with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs
Completing nursing assistant assignments while maintaining optimal gross/fine motor skills
Ensuring activities of daily living (mealtime, dressing, bathing, grooming, etc.) while supporting the highest level of independence
Ensuring all health and safety needs are met for assigned offenders per regulatory guidelines
Ensuring confidentiality and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) in all aspects of communication

Required

High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation
As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
Must complete the Department of Adult Correction's Medication Technician course and competency evaluation upon hire

Preferred

Knowledgeable and skilled in nursing care techniques
Ability to communicate observations and recommendations effectively and accurately in written and verbal form
Ability to communicate in a respectful manner to residents, family/guardians, co-workers, and others
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team while maintaining a professional, pleasant demeanor in work relationships
Ability to learn behavior management interventions and support counseling relationships
Documented experience providing direct care and person-centered support to patients with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs
