Responsibilities

Ensure that technical deliverables comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards
Assign qualified engineering resources as required to support projects being designed and implemented within the facility
Support engineering staff by providing on-site technical guidance for field, systems, and project engineering responsibilities
Ensure that all technical deliverables are developed in accordance with the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) policies and procedures
Ensuring resolution of engineering assigned issues are completed on time and within the allocated budget
Participate in forecasting staffing requirements, developing and managing budgets, monitoring performance, and initiating personnel actions when necessary
Ensure that safety processes, policies and practices are followed by assigned personnel to support worker and facility safety
Provide leadership ensuring the nuclear engineering designs are delivered and meet the customer needs and expectations in a cost effective, safe, and compliant manner
Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross-organizational operational objectives
Assist the group leader in developing specific short-term and long-range plans and monitor progress to assure long-term objectives are attained and customer requirements are met
Ensure daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing errors and issues to management attention
Lead process improvement efforts to address procedural, policies, and work process changes. Seek opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies of policies and procedures in effect at LANL

Required

Bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science
4 years nuclear experience
Demonstrated Leadership and innovation in managing a multi-disciplined engineering organization
Prior experience managing technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines
Expert knowledge and experience in engineering and administration for facility projects and on-going operations and maintenance within nuclear facilities
Experience leading a technical organization in support of nuclear facilities including operations, maintenance, systems engineering, safety basis, and projects
Experience in successfully developing internal and external customer relationships achieving customer satisfaction
Experience in negotiation with customers and support organizations and resolving conflicts
Experience in developing and implementing design related processes, configuration management, engineering document control, schedules, and cost estimates
Demonstrated experience managing schedules and leading multidisciplinary teams
Working level experience and knowledge of DOE Orders and Standards and the LANL Engineering Standards Manual related to engineering in support of nuclear facility engineering, maintenance, projects, and operations
Experience related to the development and implementation of in-house engineering standards, master specifications, and Conduct of Engineering for facility operations and maintenance
Professional license (PE) in an engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board or certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Ability to work 24/7 coverage and shift schedule

Preferred

Demonstrated Knowledge of LANL activities and nuclear operations including project execution and management, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance
Prior experience working for/with the DOE or DOD in an engineering capacity
Knowledge/experience of LANL Engineering Standards Manual; LANL Conduct of Engineering procedures; and DOE Orders and Standards related to nuclear facility design, construction, and project management
