Responsibilities
Leads a crew of workers in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned Department/Division of the County
Provides direction, training, and assistance to employees; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors status of work; troubleshoots problem situations
Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; reports accidents, injuries, and other incidents
Assists in coordinating, prioritizing, scheduling, and overseeing projects; reviews or issues work orders; provides input on special projects; assists in determining and coordinating necessary equipment, materials, and manpower to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; dispatches crew members, vehicles, or equipment to work sites as needed; reports damage/vandalism, potentially hazardous/dangerous situations, or other problems to supervisor; responds to problems or emergency situations
Monitors work conducted by contractors; inspects work to ensure quality and compliance with terms of contracts
Supervises and assists in performing various tasks involving water utilities maintenance and water distribution systems projects; schedules, coordinates, and conducts physical locates of utility services
Responds to complaints and questions related to Division activities; research problems and provides information; formulates and initiates plan of action to correct problems/issues
Coordinates response to emergency calls; evaluates service calls and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials
Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with Division projects, which may include a utility truck/vehicle, a radio detection locator, pipe locator, metal locator, electronic locator, marker locator, jet-vacuum machine, probe, manhole hook, valve key, camera truck, data view computer, gas detector, odor control units, level, ladder, gauges, meters, measuring devices, camera, painting tools, mechanic tools, power tools, hand tools, or two-way radio
Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning project work areas, or cleaning shop; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment
Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects; transports crew workers to/from work sites
Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains competitive bids and price quotes
Performs administrative tasks; provides budgetary input; reviews logs/forms completed by staff members; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, training records, performance appraisals, accident reports, executive summaries, daily activity logs, production reports, cash receipt reports, inspection forms, purchase requisitions, work orders, maintenance records, charts, water loss reports, valve data sheets, diagrams, graphs, or other documents
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, lists, schedules, work orders, quotes, delivery receipts, invoices, service/maintenance schedules, maintenance records, material safety data sheets, diagrams, blueprints, construction drawings, maps, laws, policies, procedures, regulations, standards, directories, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate
Operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, utility location system, sewer viewing system, e mail, or other computer programs
Communicates with supervisor, other divisions, employees, contractors, developers, engineers, utility companies, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction
Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
Two (2) years of related experience; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving water utility system maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, general building maintenance, equipment operation, basic supervision, and/or specialized work in area of assignment, such as underground utility location, sewer cleaning camera/truck operation, backflow testing, or wastewater collections; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a county vehicle as provided in CMA 5805
Fingerprinting required
Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials
Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
Ability to communicate orally
Sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs
Exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, water hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or animal/wildlife attacks
Preferred
Experience with reading and interpreting blueprints and/or schematics
Basic computer skills to navigate a web-based work order system and utilize network drives to store documents and photographs
