Responsibilities
Performing biological, chemical, or related procedures involving a varied sequence of technical operations that follow well-defined methods
Assists with the training and direction of laboratory assistants
Performs functions related to setting up and operation of Laboratory Central Services Branch program including specimen receiving, processing, and data entry into a centralized database, the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Prepares centralized glassware and equipment
Delivers and collects specimens, materials, and/or equipment
Collects medical and biological waste
Decontaminates and disposes of materials
Prepares media and reagents
Qualification
Required
Experience interpreting data, solving programmatic, operational, and administrative problems
Experience in oral and written communication
Your experience in working effectively with staff and administrative personnel, as well as other agencies, exercising tact, resourcefulness, and good judgment
Preferred
Experience in conducting technical, economic or policy research and analyses of regulatory issues
Experience and ability to analyze complex issues and prepare recommendations under tight deadlines with minimal oversight
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interpret complex information and communicate into a clear cohesive message to the public or other appropriate audience
Ability to represent the department professionally and respectfully while building strong working relationships with other employees, the regulated public and external stakeholders

Detail oriented and organized
Knowledge of research and analytical methods and techniques
Knowledge of principles of data security and ethical data handling
Ability to collect, query, organize, and merge data
Ability to apply established research methods and analytical approaches to research problems
Ability to conduct descriptive and inferential statistics
Ability to conduct basic statistical analyses using software such as R
Ability to interpret research findings
Ability to articulate information in a clear, concise, and professional manner
Ability to prepare and present technical reports
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and work well under pressure to meet quick deadlines
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to exercise initiative and flexibility
Ability to summarize and synthesize empirical and policy literature reviews
