Teaching Fellow EEI In-Person (Explore Engineering Innovation)
Inside Higher Ed is seeking a Teaching Fellow for their Explore Engineering Innovation program at Johns Hopkins University. Responsibilities
Teaching Fellows must be present and available during the entire course. This includes the daily class time as well as time to coordinate with the teaching team, grade student submissions, set up and clean up the classroom and lab space, check student messages daily outside of class time, and hold occasional study sessions
Teaching Fellows must be prepared to spend time independently to review course materials and complete the online training program prior to the first day of the course
Teaching Fellows must be comfortable with the course material and be able to relate the curriculum to high school students
Teaching Fellows must work with the Instructor to develop a sense of community for the high school students participating in the class
Teaching Fellows and Instructors will answer student questions and provide guidance during labs and projects
Teaching Fellows must work with the Instructor to monitor the discussion boards and answer student messages in less than 24 hours
Teaching Fellows must be available for supplementary instruction outside of class hours
Teaching Fellows will assist Instructors and ensure that students receive their graded assigned work promptly - within 1-2 days of the assignment due date - and provide detailed feedback to students so that they are able to learn from the activity and improve their future performance
Teaching Fellows will assist Instructors and ensure that grades are posted to the learning management system in a timely manner
Teaching Fellows must ensure that child safety protocols are upheld
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math Discipline
Candidates for these positions will be subject to a pre-employment background check and fingerprinted per policies related to working with minors
All employees participating in Hopkins Pre-College programs must enroll and participate in mandatory online training relevant to working with minors and working at JHU
Availability to teach June 29 to July 24, Monday through Friday, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
Availability to participate in pre-course training is required
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Preferred
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering
Three plus years of experience as a high school teacher in a STEM discipline
Excellent classroom management skills
Knowledge of Algebra II and Trigonometry
Knowledge of Physics and/or Chemistry
Familiarity with Canvas or similar LMS
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
Proficient with Zoom or similar video conferencing software
