U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a File Scanning Specialist for the Health Information Management Section. The role involves scanning, indexing, and managing health and administrative records within the hospital system.

Responsibilities

Use computer and scanner to scan medical and administrative documents into patient's records
Verify scanned images are clear, legible, indexed correctly and to the correct record/patient
Use knowledge of records disposition by identifying records to be retired and prepare records for staging
Operate a personal computer, or computer terminal to provide work accurately and efficiently
Prioritize documents to be scanned and the urgency of each request based on guidelines
Utilize communication skills to coordinate efforts such as record transfers, follow up requests, and interact with Veterans and family members and other staff, etc
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

Must have one year of general experience
General Experience is progressively responsible clerical - office - or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the File Clerk position being filled
Must have successfully completed at least two years of education above the high school level
This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school - junior college - college - or university
One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours - 45 quarter hours - or the equivalent in a college or university - or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business - secretarial - or technical school
Must have successfully completed equivalent combinations of post-high school education and experience as described above

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience - including volunteer experience
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment
The work is mostly sedentary; however - some bending - stretching - walking - and lifting are required
Boxes of records must be packaged and lifted for shipment
Work is performed in an office setting in the File Unit within this Medical Center
Incumbent is required to walk to various hospital locations in order to retrieve medical records
