Cardiopulmonary Function Tech (Part Time, Days)

Nicklaus Children's Health System is dedicated to providing quality healthcare to children, and they are seeking a Cardiopulmonary Function Tech. This role is responsible for coordinating and delivering prescribed cardiopulmonary testing services through direct performance of laboratory studies.

Responsibilities

Performs cardiopulmonary testing, including flow volume loops, N2 Washout, Body Plethysmography, Bronchial Challenges, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, six minute walk test, & Indirect Calorimetry
Provides appropriate instruction/education to laboratory staff, patients, family members, nurses, physicians, affiliated students, and other members of the Miami Children’s Health System community
Performs other testing as ordered (CO2 response test, etc.)
Disinfects equipment according to system policies and Infection Control Standards
Performs calibration and testing on equipment, and follows up on any issues
Performs all quality assurance (QA) on equipment and reports any malfunction; removes equipment and documents if failure impacted any patient outcomes. Completes incident report and tags equipment
Documents all patient post test results; scans, prints and walks results to physicians for interpretation
Reviews cardiopulmonary studies with medical students, fellows, and physicians
Educates patients and families regarding pulmonary medications and use of oxygen
Maintains cardiopulmonary equipment and associated supplies
Completes reports for cardiopulmonary tests and distributes to ordering physicians
Participates in Cystic Fibrosis Clinic team and Asthma Center team
Accountable to follow all Infection Control standards; ensures proper use of Personal Protective Equipment per hospital policy and procedures to ensure safe patient care
Maintains accountability by ensuring compliance thru timely completion of licensures, certifications, all competencies, health requirements (PPD, N95, Flu, etc.), and education requirements
Maintains accountability and timekeeping expectations as outlined by MCHS Timekeeping and Attendance policy & procedures. Ensures behavior is compliant with communication standards
Ensures that behavior meets/exceeds Targeted Service Scores as measured by the Service Index and/or the internal departmental Service survey

Required

Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license issued by the state of Florida - active and in good standing throughout employment
National Registry Respiratory Care Certification (NRBC) required
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
Computer competency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows based pulmonary function software programs
Performs cardiopulmonary testing, including flow volume loops, N2 Washout, Body Plethysmography, Bronchial Challenges, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, six minute walk test, & Indirect Calorimetry

Demonstrates proficiency in management of cardiopulmonary laboratory operations
Demonstrates knowledge of accepted standards, policies, procedures, staff responsibilities and instrumentation related to provision of diagnostic cardiopulmonary testing
Demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, clinical aerosol delivery, and emergency management procedures related to performance of diagnostic cardiopulmonary testing
Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and performance of diagnostic cardiopulmonary testing
Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, families and peers
Ability to learn appropriate software application(s) such as used for patient documentation and medication administration
Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred

NBRC Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist, or NBRC Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist preferred
Two years full time acute care hospital PFT laboratory experience including at least one year PFT laboratory management experience preferred
Knowledge of Spanish helpful
