Civil Engineer
Bedrock Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer to plan, coordinate, and direct land surveying and civil engineering projects. The role involves overseeing projects to ensure they are completed within budgets and timelines while mentoring junior staff and maintaining client relationships.
Responsibilities
Project Management, including oversight, direction and support of field and office work associated with Civil Design and Land Survey projects
Research, gather and supply essential documents and materials to direct the completion of field and/or office work
Delegate and supervise Civil and Survey techs on assigned tasks
Verify the work performed by assigned Technicians for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable engineering standards and specifications
Guide and direct technician staff to stay on course with project schedules and budgets by monitoring completion of assigned field and office tasks
Be available to troubleshoot and/or provide guidance to Civil and Survey Technicians when issues arise with assigned work
Drive completion of survey projects within contracted budgets and timeframes; provide regular updates to management and ownership on project budget and/or timeline slippage
Effectively manage scope creep through timely communication and negotiation of Extra Work requirement when scope and/or client needs change
Maintain project files and include all notes, communications, research and design documents
Prepare and oversee detailed civil engineering design in connection with municipal public works and private capital improvement projects
Perform advanced professional engineering design that includes civil/site, roadway, drainage, stormwater management, pipelines, municipal and transportation structures, and signalized intersections
Generate professional engineering plans, specifications, technical calculations, and engineering reports as dictated by assigned projects
Conduct and oversee site observations, existing conditions backchecking, and written field reports
Check plans and specifications to ensure a high level of standard for accuracy and completeness
Review development plans and capital improvement plans and make recommendations regarding design, constructability, maintenance, and traffic related issues
Meet with developers and/or consultants to resolve issues
Sign and stamp deliverables
Build and enhance Bedrock’s brand reputation and client relations
Ensure clients have a clear understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and obligations in relation to survey requirements by providing quality, timely advice and information
Promote frequent and open channels of communication by providing project status updates when sensible, keeping the client “looped in” on work progress
Manage client expectations to execute project deliverables on time
Proactively communicate relative workload to Operations Manager and plan work to attempt to balance existing workload
Hold existing clients in high regard and be ready to assist in finding solutions
Professionally interact over the phone, via email, and in-person with all Bedrock clients, documenting all project notes in the Ajera system
Continually upgrade your Project Management and professional skillset through company-provided training and other outside learning opportunities
Perform special projects upon request
Monitor phone calls and e-mails and respond within 24 hours
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience
Significant training in civil engineering, or a related field
Principles and practices of applied civil engineering to estimates, studies, technical reports, design, plans, specifications, and professional recommendations for a variety of engineering activities
Land development, including planning and analysis of engineering systems needed for the use of land including streets, sewage, water facility, storm drain, grading, land use and utilities
Thorough understanding of design and drafting methods, including proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
Communicate effectively both orally and written
Able to take decisive action and document rationale for training/backup purposes
Results driven with the ability to function independently and multi-task
Able to pivot, focus and manage time well ensuring deadlines are met
High attention to detail, resourcefulness, and analytical skills
Ability to lead, manage and hold employees accountable
Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and is solutions oriented
Collaborative and dedicated to serving team members and clients
RCE for the state of California (Required)
