ZONING CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

NEOGOV is seeking a Zoning Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Elizabeth City. This role involves ensuring compliance with local ordinances and nuisance regulations through property inspections and investigations of citizen complaints related to code violations.

Responsibilities

Conducts field investigations and property inspections to identify violations
Maintains records; photograph evidence, invoices, liens, notices and orders; contact responsible persons, landlords or tenants and perform follow-up investigations to ensure that remedial action has been taken; develop and maintain accurate case files
Enforces and monitors applicable ordinances, codes and standards and other public concerns
Provides information to the public on city regulations as well as to property owners, residents, contractors, engineers, businesses and other city departments
Conducts field and office work, receives and responds to citizen complaints and reports from other agencies
Maintains and documents inspections and other job-related activities
Prepares notification of violations
Performs related work as required

Qualification

Required

Requires an Associate's degree supplemented by six (6) months of service related to working with the general public or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in Code Enforcement
Must possess and maintain an appropriate, valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history
Knowledge of computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office software, office machines such as scanners, computers, copiers, and other hand held devices
Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral form and to effectively convey City rules and regulations, policies and Ordinances to the general public

Preferred

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and considerable experience in building inspections and code enforcement
Experience with field investigations and property inspections
Experience enforcing compliance
