State Portfolio Manager

United Community is seeking a State Portfolio Manager (SPM) to lead a team of Commercial Portfolio Managers and ensure the protection and growth of the Bank's assets at the State level. The SPM will oversee underwriting processes, manage credit analysis, and partner with key stakeholders to achieve portfolio growth and profitability.

Responsibilities

Provide state‑level leadership over underwriting and portfolio management, partnering closely with Sales throughout the full deal lifecycle
Oversee credit analysis, risk ratings, deal structures, and ongoing portfolio monitoring to ensure strong credit quality within the Bank’s risk appetite
Champion the Deal Team model, aligning Underwriters, Commercial Relationship Managers, and Loan Officer Assistants to drive consistency and an enhanced client experience
Manage workflow, cycle time, and resource allocation statewide to balance quality, efficiency, and speed to market
Drive accountability and performance through coaching, quality scorecards, and collaboration with key partners on talent development and evaluations
Partner with the State President, Regional Credit Manager, and internal stakeholders to achieve portfolio growth, profitability, and enterprise objectives

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required
10+ years' experience in commercial credit underwriting and portfolio management
5+ years management/leadership experience
Knowledge and understanding of credit policy, risk analysis and loan documentation
Knowledge and understanding of financial analysis, statements and accounting concepts
Working knowledge of federal and state banking regulations
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Demonstrate strong organization and time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities to meet multiple deadlines
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Must be able to pass a criminal background & credit check
This is a full-time, non-remote position

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
Working knowledge of underwriting specialized lines of businesses included CRE, Middle Market, ABL and Not for Profit lending is preferred
