OceanX is a nonprofit working to unlock the ocean’s sustainable potential. They are seeking a Data Intern to support the Data Team in building data pipelines, visualizations, and analytical workflows, providing hands-on experience with data from various programs to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Work closely with our Digital Programs and Science teams to develop project plans and requirements for data projects

Develop data ingestion pipelines using Python and related technologies

Build data normalization / transformation processes using DBT and SQL

Build data visualizations using Metabase

Contribute to user-facing Science Data Products using Python and Javascript/Typescript

Contribute to Agentic AI workflow design and implementation

Required

Actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields

Familiarity with one or more of the following: Python, SQL, Javascript/Typescript

Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres

Familiarity with version control software such as Git

Determined, resourceful and practical. An independent, self-starter, with a 'roll up your sleeves' attitude and strong work ethic

Agility, with a track record of getting things done

Organized, reliable, and meticulous

Ability to prioritize, meet tight deadlines, anticipate needs, and maintain high quality work

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

Comfortable with ambiguity
