Responsibilities
Supervise 2–3 refrigeration technicians
Plan and assign daily work and shift schedules
Train staff on maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe ammonia system operation
Review work quality and ensure tasks are completed on time
Inspect, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration equipment (compressors, pumps, condensers, evaporators, motors, valves, etc.)
Diagnose equipment issues through observation, testing, and operator feedback
Perform preventative maintenance and follow PSM requirements
Coordinate repairs with outside contractors when needed
Enforce PPE use and all company safety policies
Follow OSHA, EPA, and PSM regulations for ammonia systems
Keep ammonia safety equipment updated
Maintain a safe work environment and report hazards
Work with other departments to schedule and complete refrigeration tasks
Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status
Uphold company values, ethics, and professional conduct
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
2–3 years of experience in a meat processing or industrial facility
Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems
Understanding of electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems
Familiarity with boilers, HVAC, hydraulics, pneumatics, and CMMS
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
Must obtain OP1, OP2, and OP3 ammonia certifications (training provided)
Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
Ability to read and understand technical and safety documents
Willingness to work any shift and respond to emergency calls
Ability to move throughout the facility, climb, reach, and use tools
Lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
Work in varying temperature environments
Preferred
Prior supervisory experience preferred
CIRO or CRES certifications preferred or willingness to obtain
