The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a Program Specialist III - Education Development Coach to provide consultative and technical assistance to facility staff. The role involves supporting a multi-tiered system of support in education programs and implementing trauma-focused strategies for youth.

Responsibilities
Provides complex (journey-level) consultative and technical assistance to facility staff, including facility administrators and multidisciplinary teams consisting of case managers, educators, and youth coaches
Provides support for a multi-tiered system of support that involves the Texas Model of trauma-informed corrections in the education program
Provides or assists with providing, support to students in the Making a Plan for Success (MAPS) Center, which includes, but is not limited to, regulating student behavior, supporting social emotional learning, providing positive behavior supports, and incorporating restorative practices
Plans, develops, and implements trauma-focused, multi-tiered systems of supports in the MAPS Center; uses training, facilitation, and coaching skills to build systemic competencies; analyzes and uses data to make and support decisions and to make recommendations to improve multi-tiered systems of support; provides relevant information regarding on-going progress and outcome monitoring to appropriate administrators
Provides information regarding the Texas Model and MAPS during staff and special meetings and to family members or guardians of youth as directed
Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, travel, and be on-call
Acts as a facilitator and coach for processes related to the trauma-focused, multi-tiered systems of support at one or more of the agency’s secure facilities
Collaborates with facility staff, education services administrative staff, and rehabilitation/treatment program administrative staff in meeting established objectives and goals; promotes a positive working environment
Monitors data, assessments, and other evaluations related to the trauma-focused, multi-tiered system of support and the Texas Model
Conducts and attends trainings for staff, youth, and parents/guardians of agency youth as directed; assists with developing training materials as directed
Provides consultative and technical assistance and support to facility administrators and multidisciplinary teams regarding planning, development, and implementation of the Texas Model
Provides individual feedback to agency staff in a productive manner that helps to build their skill in delivering the trauma-focused, multi-tiered system of support and Texas Model
Provides guidance and assistance with data collection; ensures the fidelity of the data collection process
Provides guidance and assistance related to the productive transfer of data into shared information and knowledge useful for effective decision-making; analyzes and uses data to make and support decisions and to make recommendations to improve intervention methods
Provides, or assists with providing, services to youth to improve social skills competency, self-regulation, and mindfulness
Maintains regular and frequent communications with supervisors
Prepares reports on local multi-tiered systems’ capacities and outcomes
Participates in professional development from designated experts
Identifies concerns and trends, and recommends improvements to resolve problems or enhance the delivery of agency initiatives
Considers ideas and points of view of other staff members
Assists in the collection, organization, analysis and/or preparation of materials in response to requests for information
Assists administrative teams with facilitating meetings at agency facilities on a regular basis
Assists with development of regular action plans
Reports any presence or perception of racial, ethnic, and/or gender disparities
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed
Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:
Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible
Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Six (6) years of full-time wage earning experience that may be any combination of the following: youth development coach, casework, case management, or counseling experience; experience as a teacher, assistant principal or principal at the secondary level (grades 6–12) or superintendent; experience with monitoring a special education program or TEA residential facility (RF); or experience involving development or implementation of a multi-tiered system of support or other student behavioral intervention strategies
Applicants must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check and any other requirements listed under Minimum Qualifications
Preferred
Bachelor's degree with major course work in education, psychology, school psychology, criminal justice, or related field
Experience with the design and delivery of secondary and tertiary interventions in behavior or academic models
