Staff Auditor
Argonne National Laboratory is a premier research facility, and they are seeking a Staff Auditor to support their Internal Audit department. This role involves performing financial, operational, compliance, and data-driven audits while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
Assist in planning, conducting, and documenting audits of financial, operational, compliance, contract, and IT areas in accordance with Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) Standards
Perform data analytics to identify trends, anomalies, or risks within laboratory datasets
Support testing of internal controls for compliance with DOE orders, FAR requirements, and other federal guidelines
Assist with audits of cost allowability, subcontractor oversight, procurement processes, and indirect cost allocations
Develop and maintain organized, accurate audit workpapers
Help prepare audit findings, recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies
Participate in follow-up reviews to verify the implementation of corrective actions
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit function
Participate in training to build expertise in federal contractor and national laboratory auditing practices
Qualification
Required
PA2: Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics / Data Science, Statistics or a related field deemed appropriate by the Chief Audit Executive
2+ years of experience and knowledge of, or coursework in, auditing principles, internal controls, or risk assessment
Intermediate proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power Query, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI)
Ability to clean, transform, and interpret large datasets
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Strong attention to detail skills and the ability to multi-task in a quick paced environment often with changing priorities
Working knowledge of federal regulations (e.g., Department of Energy rules, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), OMB Uniform Guidance)
Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred
Progress toward a professional certification such as CIA, CPA, CISA, or other audit/accounting credential approved by Chief Audit Executive
Familiarity with internal control frameworks (COSO, GAO Green Book) and risk assessment methodologies
Exposure to auditing, accounting, or compliance work (including internships, academic projects, or entry-level positions)
Experience in federal contractor, grant, or government auditing environments
