Responsibilities

Performs preventative maintenance and calibration of complex lab equipment (e.g., liquid handlers, sequencers)
Supports hardware and software integrations with software platforms (e.g., LIMS, log management services, schedulers, orchestrators, etc.) with lab equipment (e.g., liquid handlers)
Supports Equipment Lifecycle Management processes and procedures by supporting and maintaining equipment records for traceability purposes
Participates in equipment and automation development lifecycles, with developing emphasis on specific lifecycle phases
Drives ideation and implements continuous improvement ideas for relevant business and laboratory process step(s)
Coordinates routine maintenance and calibration of lab and facility equipment with external vendors and suppliers
May support internal and external audits with review of equipment records and related procedures
Trains end users and teammates with a customer-first mindset
Partners cross-functionally to propose and deploy equipment solutions that meet functional requirements and prioritize reliability, scalability, and efficiency
Performs hardware and software integrations with software platforms (e.g., LIMS, log management services, schedulers, orchestrators, etc.) with lab equipment (e.g., liquid handlers) for enhanced capabilities or observability
Supports equipment and automation development lifecycles, with emerging emphasis on multiple lifecycle phases
Serves as a subject matter expert for relevant business and laboratory processes or equipment; drives ideation and implements continuous improvement projects for processes and workflows
Consults and/or analyzes business cases for development and operations using a data-driven approach; may support service contract negotiations
Prepares, reviews and approves documents (e.g., protocols, reports, nonconformances, risk assessments, change control requests) to ensure compliance in Quality environment
Develops training programs for end users and serves as a technical coach or project lead for internal group projects

Required

Bachelors in engineering or science, 5+ yrs. related experience
Masters in science or engineering, 3+ yrs. related experience
PhD in Science or Engineering
Ability to author Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), equipment and method IQOQ plans and reports, and Change Control Requests (CCRs) and Design Input Requirements (DIRs)
Solid customer-first communication skills as a team representative
Experience working with commercial off-the-shelf benchtop lab equipment and automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Dynamic Devices, Formulatrix)
Ability to troubleshoot and solve engineering problems with structured approaches and suggest improvements (e.g. application of first principles, Lean Six Sigma)
Abilities for developing solutions for moderately complex problems, assessing risk and reward of engineering design decisions, using structured methodologies for troubleshooting, and multi-tasking on multiple projects
Experience with laboratory integrations of hardware (e.g. liquid handlers, environmental sensors) with software platforms (e.g., LIMS, log management services, schedulers, orchestrators, etc.)
Effective communication skills as a leader of projects and a basic understanding of project management, especially with regards to risk identification and mitigation and adherence to deliverable timelines
Ability to gather requirements, optimize processes, and design lab solutions to support the business
Strong record of authoring plans, protocols, and reports for equipment qualification and validation, design input requirements, and specifications consistent with customer needs
Experience developing and reporting metrics

Preferred

Experience 3+ years of using programming languages (e.g., VB, Python, C#, JavaScript) to enhance off-the-shelf functionality of lab and facility equipment; experience with version control systems (e.g, Git)
Experience with analytical and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, SQL, R)
Experience with laboratory operations (i.e. scaling and sustaining)
Experience with Agile or DevOps practices
Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, NGS, analytical QC)
