Communications Intern

The Tennessee Secretary of State is seeking a Communications Intern to join their Communications Division. This internship offers the chance to work collaboratively with the Communications Team and assist with various tasks such as writing, researching, and managing social media content.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Researching, creating, updating and posting online content, including news and updates, infographics, and social media graphics
Writing, proofreading, fact-checking, and editing communications materials
Drafting news releases, media alerts, and other external communications materials
Conducting research related to major projects, promotional campaigns, or events
Publishing content
Assisting in video production
Participating in ad hoc projects and tasks as needed

Required

Currently attending higher or professional education, including college, university
The ideal candidate will be a junior, senior, or graduate student working toward a bachelor's degree (B.A.) or higher in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English or a related field
Knowledge of media and public relations, either through coursework or employment experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Project management experience
Self-motivated and driven to speak up and share new ideas
Comfortable interacting with, and interviewing, new people
Ability to manage time effectively
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research tools

Preferred

Prior experience in a professional setting and a connection to Tennessee is preferred
Experience with photography, video, graphic design, and Canva a plus
