Independent Contractor Associate Attorney

Southern California Immigration Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering pro bono legal services to survivors of human and civil rights violations. They are looking for an Independent Contractor Associate Attorney to provide legal representation and support in immigration matters, including analyzing cases, preparing legal documents, and representing clients before immigration authorities.

Legal Services

Responsibilities

Research legal issues related to client claims, prepare all necessary filings, and represent them throughout their removal/affirmative proceedings
Interview clients and potential clients to determine their possible forms of relief
Attend immigration court proceedings and assist in preparing witnesses and evidence
Prepare and review immigration petitions, applications, and supporting documentation for immigration cases
Draft legal motions, briefs, and other legal documents as required
Create a positive culture of high-quality service
Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely records for each case in eImmigration
Communicate regularly with management and employees; attend required meetings and work in office 2-3 days a week
Regularly communicate with clients on the progress of their case in a professional, pleasant, and respectful manner
Independently handle a caseload of immigration matters, including petitions, applications, and appeals
Stay updated on changes in immigration laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance and provide accurate advice to clients
Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with client communities, community-based organizations, partner organizations

Qualification

Immigration law experienceAsylum law knowledgeLegal document preparationMicrosoft Office proficiencyEImmigration softwareCultural competency

Required

Law degree from an American Bar Association accredited school and licensed in any state in the United States
Minimum of 1 year of experience in immigration law and managing client cases
Knowledge of Asylum law and removal proceedings
Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and EImmigration

Preferred

African and LGBTQ cultural competency appreciated
