Engineer I (Assistant District Engineer) - Division 11 - District 2

Responsibilities
Position will serve as an Assistant District Engineer in the Boone District Office
This position is primarily responsible for the review and approval of driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions, with additional responsibilities and duties assigned as needed
Position will supervise Engineering Technicians including the distribution of workload, tracking of permits as they move through the review and approval process, and performance evaluation
Will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions
Will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions
Must be able to read and interpret constructions plans
Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers, developers, members of the public, public officials, and other personnel
Must have the ability to review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas that are not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to the applicant with a list of deficiencies
Position requires excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner
Position requires the ability to write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be able to read and interpret constructions plans
Must be able to effectively communicate with engineers, developers, members of the public, public officials, and other personnel
Must have the ability to review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas that are not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to the applicant with a list of deficiencies
Position requires excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner
Position requires the ability to write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
Preferred
Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation
Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups
Experience writing memos, reports, and emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
