Senior Systems Administrator

Central Oregon Community College is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join their Enterprise Systems Administration team. This role is essential for maintaining the technology infrastructure that supports the college's core operations, ensuring smooth system functionality and providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

Ensuring the smooth operation of critical systems, servers, workstations, and cloud-based services that support our campus community
Collaborating with internal teams to provide technical support, resolve issues, and maintain a secure and efficient technology environment
Managing and optimizing workstation and application deployments, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of faculty, staff, and students
Driving continuous improvement in system administration processes, software testing, and the development of new tools and technologies to enhance campus operations
Providing exceptional customer service by addressing technical needs, maintaining helpdesk support, and building systems for consistent service delivery
Contributing to innovative projects by assisting in the planning, design, and acquisition of new technologies that shape the future of COCC’s IT landscape

Required

Associate's Degree in a technology-related discipline or equivalent work experience
Four years of direct, hands-on experience in workstation and server administration, infrastructure systems and/or related technology support demonstrating any combination of the following: 1) Active Directory; 2) Microsoft Exchange (server and/or O365); 3) Microsoft SQL Server or Powershell; and 4) Software imaging and deployments
Proficiency in server and workstation administration technologies, including current supported MS Windows Server operating systems, SQL Server, PowerShell, Active Directory, Group Policy, Storage (SAN), Enterprise Backup processes and Disaster Recovery
Must be able to monitor, identify, and resolve system/network outages, where responsible; determine, locate and correct hardware/software problems; document and prevent recurrence
Must be able to administer computer servers in an enterprise environment and have a working knowledge of enterprise network architecture
Ability to research and develop scripting and testing to ensure outcomes and work with programmers to troubleshoot script problems
Experience with current software deployment and monitoring tools. (Examples may include, but are not limited to: SCCM, PDQ, JAMF, SimpleMDM, Ninite, SolarWinds, ManageEngine, etc)
Knowledge and experience configuring server monitoring tools and alerts
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Exchange Server in an on-premise environment
Knowledge and experience with a variety of server types including database, email, print, and web
Experience and skills in server, workstation and security best practices and documentation, including but not limited to: system/application patches, update management, and alert response
Requires strong analytical, project execution, and problem-solving skills
Must be able to effectively communicate and share information
Must be a strong team player. Self-directed and self-motivated. Positive attitude
Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience
Must be willing to work off-hours, including evenings and weekends, and to be on call for emergencies

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in a technology-related discipline
Experience in any of the following: a. vCenter and VMware and/or Oracle KVM b. Enterprise backup applications, including Commvault and AWS c. Microsoft 365 administration and security d. SCCM and/or PDQ e. AWS or OCI administration
The college supports and encourages certifications in essential functions of the position such as Microsoft or VMWare certifications. Ongoing training in the position duties and requirements is expected
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is considered a plus, along with experience working in a diverse multicultural setting
