Responsibilities
Tutors students identified as English learners to improve their proficiency in English and their understanding of curriculum subjects
Assists assigned students with challenges related to school achievement as a result of language barriers
Promotes the well-being of students by helping them develop a positive attitude/self-image and ability to cooperate and interact with other students and adults
Performs a variety of tasks that support classroom instruction
Consults with teacher on ways to better meet students' needs
Performs related tasks as required in program planning, implementation, and operation regarding assigned students
Serves as interpreter as needed
Translates correspondence to parents in English or Spanish
Administers oral language proficiency and academic tests in English and Spanish to students
Transcribes oral answers into written form using state-and District-approved tests
Contacts school staff and parents to explain meaning of test scores obtained
Tests students on a one-to-one basis
Verifies student cumulative record information
Posts, maintains, and updates testing data
May travel from one work location to another, using personal transportation
Performs related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Any combination of the following paid experience amounting to one year: providing instructional assistance interpreting or translating services in the English and Spanish language
High school graduation or the equivalent
Completion of at least 48 semester units (or 72 quarter units) at the college level, -OR- Possession of an Associate's or higher level degree, -OR- Pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics
An appropriate, valid California driver license
