TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (CIVIL)
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for improving lives and communities through transportation. They are seeking a Transportation Engineer (Civil) to assist in developing and maintaining the District Ten-Year SHOPP Plan and to coordinate with various district and HQ programs to initiate projects.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Asset Management Branch Chief (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the incumbent performs a wide variety of transportation related works involving the District 10 Asset Management Program
Assists in developing and maintaining the District Ten-Year SHOPP Plan
Coordinates with various district and HQ programs to initiate projects to be included into the District SHOPP Ten-Year Plan
Develops conceptual cost estimates and project initiation proposals (PIP)
Represents the district Asset Management Branch as part of project development team to review project initiation reports, project reports, PS&E packages and provide guidance related to asset management
Qualification
Required
Possession of a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers for Range D
Authority granted under section 5-1.01 'Authority of the Engineer' of the Standard Specifications
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required
Candidates must meet Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s)
Candidates must include unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification if basing eligibility on education
Completed applications and all required documents must be received or postmarked by the Final Filing Date
Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically)
All Experience and Education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification should be included
Failure to submit a Statement of Qualifications will disqualify candidates from the hiring process
Preferred
High-degree knowledge of Engineering Principles
High-degree knowledge of Mathematics and Geometry
High-degree knowledge of Design Principles
High-degree knowledge of Computer software including E-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, File Maker Pro, MicroStation, Adobe Acrobat
High-degree knowledge of Project Development Procedures Manual
High-degree knowledge of Highway Design Manual
Ability to make engineering calculations
Ability to maintain a tracking database of active projects
Ability to express ideas, situations, plans and decisions clearly, both verbally and in writing
Ability to prepare PIDs and PIPs
Ability to organize documents, ideas, and data when compiling information for management or functional staff
Ability to be open-minded to all possible solutions to problems
Ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal direction and prioritize workload to ensure milestones and deadlines are satisfactorily met
Ability to document information as it relates to specific projects, meeting minutes, phone conversations, e-mail, etc
Ability to communicate professionally with internal/external partners
Ability to analyze situations to identify potential conflicts/risks and take effective actions
Ability to analyze issues and reach an independent decision to a solution
Ability to analyze schedules and provide action plan for meeting deadlines
