Start in 2026 SummerBAE Systems, Inc. is a leader in the defense industry, and they are seeking Systems Engineering interns to support their Combat Mission Systems Business. Interns will collaborate with engineers on system models, support trade studies, and assist in technical specification development for weapons systems development programs.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with other program engineers to create, maintain, and modify system models and databases
Support trade studies to drive balanced design solutions and select from component alternatives
Determine where opportunities exist to improve the system design and recommend changes to the design based on analysis performed
Support technical specification development, at component, subsystem, and system levels, by analyzing and interpreting product performance specifications to ensure appropriate requirement flow down, allocation, and traceability
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program pursing a degree in Systems Engineering or other closely related field of study (i.e. Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering) NON-IT RELATED
Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary team environment
Systems thinking skills (i.e., ability to work at detailed level but understand system level implications)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to write technical reports and presentations
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred
Completed junior year of Bachelor's Degree program at the time of the summer internship
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a Master's degree in Systems Engineering, or other closely related field of study
Detailed cover letter is a plus
Demonstrated leadership experience in multi-disciplinary team environment
Previous internship with defense or automotive industry
Experience with military vehicle or weapons systems is preferred
Model based systems engineering experience, such as UML, SysML, Rational Harmony, Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM)
Database experience such as DOORS, Microsoft Access
