Design Manager - Land Development

Civil Engineering
Responsibilities
Ensuring adherence to QA/QC standards, internal procedures, and industry best practices related to design software
Supporting innovation, technology adoption, and continuous process improvement initiatives
Establishing, maintaining, and enforcing templates and CAD/BIM guidelines
Implementing and managing design and production technology solutions
Identifying skill gaps and developing training pathways, including CAD and design bootcamps
Serving as the subject matter expert for Civil 3D, AutoCAD, BIM/ACC, and digital design tools
Maintaining deep knowledge of Civil 3D modeling, Sheet Set Manager, data shortcuts, XREF workflows, and label styles and annotation best practices
Evaluating and implementing design technologies that improve quality and reduce production time
Leading innovation strategies for design tools and production processes
Developing, maintaining, and enforcing CAD and production standards across teams and offices
Creating and maintaining a CAD Standards Manual and Plan Production Guide
Providing advanced technical support to engineers performing drafting and modeling work
Qualification
Required
Minimum of high school or technical school training with coursework in computer-aided drafting, or equivalent experience
15+ years of progressive drafting and design experience
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills with coworkers and public agency officials
Extensive experience coordinating with outside agencies and project team members
Ability to build strong professional relationships
Flexibility to adapt to changing work assignments on short notice or as project needs evolve
Preferred
Experience leading CAD standards and technology initiatives across multiple teams or offices
Strong background in training, mentoring, and supporting technical staff
Ability to balance innovation with consistency and quality control
