Admin Accounting Section Manager

Responsibilities
Manage and direct the Admin Accounting Section within the Financial Reporting and Accounting Services Division
Providing leadership and day-to-day oversight for the section’s accounting operations
Supervising subordinate supervisors and staff who perform critical accounting functions, including travel, reconciliations, accounts payable, and general ledger accounting for CalPERS’ pension fund
Ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards and CalPERS policies by planning, organizing, and controlling the work of the Admin Accounting Section, which includes the Travel and Recon units
Analyzing complex financial data, preparing and reviewing financial reports, and maintaining accurate general ledger accounts and records
Developing and implementing efficient accounting processes and procedures
Coordinating with other units, divisions, and external agencies to support organizational goals
Hiring, training, and mentoring professional staff, fostering a collaborative team environment, and promoting continuous improvement in accounting practices
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, control agencies, and executive management, to address complex financial issues, implement new initiatives, and ensure the integrity of CalPERS’ pension fund accounting operations
Qualification
Required
Experience managing and directing accounting teams
Experience researching and interpreting accounting rules, policies, and procedures
Ability to present recommendations based on accounting rules, policies, and procedures to executive level management
Experience analyzing complex financial or operational issues
Ability to develop and implement efficient accounting processes and procedures
Ability to supervise subordinate supervisors and staff
Ability to ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards and CalPERS policies
Ability to prepare and review financial reports
Ability to maintain accurate general ledger accounts and records
Ability to coordinate with other units, divisions, and external agencies
Ability to hire, train, and mentor professional staff
