Responsibilities
Perform specimen embedding and microtomy according to established protocols
Participate actively in quality control/quality assurance procedures to ensure accurate results
File blocks and slides meticulously, maintaining organized documentation and facilitating slide distribution
Assist in supply inventory management and ordering processes as needed
Utilize LIS (Laboratory Information System), Powerpath, and Omni-Trax proficiently for data management
Operate the Cryostat effectively for the preparation of frozen sections
Maintain, troubleshoot, and utilize various histology equipment, including tissue processors, staining machines, and others
Perform slide cover slipping and labeling with attention to detail
Execute H/E and special staining techniques and prepare solutions as required
Qualification
Required
NYSDOH (New York State Department of Health) licensure as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, Technician, or Technologist
An Associate's Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements
High school diploma will be considered only if the individual possesses designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS
6 months to 1 year of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory
Exposure to computer systems and proficiency in relevant software
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders
