District Sign Technician IV
The Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining the state's transportation infrastructure. The District Sign Technician IV coordinates and performs advanced skilled work related to installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs and other related equipment, while also serving as a lead worker and trainer for other technicians.

Responsibilities
Assists in scheduling and assigning work
Serves as a lead worker by advising, training, and instructing employees in shop policies and procedures; acting as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage
Coordinates and conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs)
Coordinates and inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs
Coordinates and maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions
Orders signs from the regional sign shop. Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
5 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience
Valid driver's license
Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class 'A' CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment
Extensive knowledge of Standard Highway Sign Designs for Texas
Extensive knowledge of The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Extensive knowledge of The Sign Crew Field Book
Extensive knowledge of The Guide to Proper Location and Installation of Signs and Other Devices
Expert skill in preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
Expert skill in installing and repairing signs
Expert skill in using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
Expert skill in maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Proficient skill in leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Proficient skill in using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions
Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
