Controller
General Sheet Metal is focused on fostering a culture of accountability and improvement. They are seeking a Controller to manage the finance and accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strategic partnership with leadership.
Responsibilities
Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets
Oversee the activities involving cash disbursements, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders / subcontracts, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance
Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts, and collection efforts
Ensures corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns while taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes
Leads in the month-end and year-end closing process. Delegates duties to other members of the Finance department as needed
Protects assets by establishing and maintaining systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhances the company's value
Acts as a strategic partner to the President and demonstrates a high level of understanding of the operational side of the business
Serves as the lead in engagements involving external auditors for activities related to financial statement review, tax returns, policy audits, job audits, etc
Reviews and supports others in the job costing process and analysis ensuring maximization of billing potential
Responds with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs
Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports, as needed
Oversee the accurate and timely submission of federal, state, and local quarterly payroll reports and payments and annual W-2 and 1099 reports
Helps guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
Engaged in continuous development in best practices and in compliance with current regulations
Serves as a back-up for payroll processing
Responsible for identifying and documenting areas of opportunity to work on continuous improvement
Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance
Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation
Respectfully takes direction from manager

Qualification
Required
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in accounting/finance
2-3 years in a supervisory role
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
Job requires specialized computer skills
Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
Knowledge of various billing methods (lump sum, GMP, T&M), & accounts receivable collections in the construction industry
Understanding of work in process adjustments
