Responsibilities

Define enterprise‑grade AI/ML architecture. Develop reference architecture for commercial data and AI products that align with enterprise standards, design scalable and modular solutions for multiple brands and markets, and outline the Paynela technical roadmap for AI capabilities
Drive AI product strategy and roadmap. Shape the architecture and design of Paynela generative‑AI solutions, working with AI/ML teams, business stakeholders and product managers to translate business needs into robust, scalable and secure AI applications
Lead development of AI/ML products. Define integration strategies that connect AI tools with existing Paynela data platforms and enterprise applications; design and implement cloud‑based infrastructures, data pipelines and storage required to support AI models; oversee MLOps pipelines to ensure efficient deployment and lifecycle management. The candidate should be able to both lead/direct development efforts from other engineers as well as provide “hands-on” software engineering and support of ML/AI solutions
Engage directly with clients. Collaborate with health‑plan, payment, and provider customers to understand needs and design customized AI solutions; provide technical leadership throughout the Paynela AI/ML project life‑cycle from concept through deployment, and communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
Manage AI governance and compliance. Ensure architectures meet GxP requirements, relevant compliance standards (including HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC, KYC/AML, etc), data‑privacy laws and consent‑management standards, implement AI governance and security measures, and stay current with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR and DICOM
Mentor and collaborate across teams. Lead cross‑functional design reviews, mentor Paynela engineers, technical and operations staff, and client-facing teams on AI best practices, and work with product managers, account managers, and software engineers to deliver high‑quality solutions
Evaluate emerging technologies. Stay abreast of pharma and fintech industry trends and generative AI and machine‑learning advancements; recommend modern technologies that enhance personalization, targeting and analytics; and prototype new ideas to demonstrate business value

Required

AI/ML expertise. Knowledge of AI/ML architectures for recommendation engines, predictive analytics and generative models; ability to design and implement end‑to‑end AI solutions considering scalability, security and cost; familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, SageMaker), etc. Proven experience implementing successful production level end-to-end AI system
Software and cloud architecture. Proficiency in Python and other modern programming languages; strong architectural skills with AWS cloud-native platforms, microservices, containerized solutions and integration patterns; experience in MLOps/LLMOps and CI/CD pipelines
Healthcare/pharma/fintech domain knowledge. Practical experience designing systems in regulated environments, with exposure to healthcare, life sciences, or financial workflows. Familiarity with pharmaceutical data platforms, patient support or payment programs, healthcare interoperability standards, and security and privacy controls. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply domain-specific regulatory requirements. Understanding of highly regulated environments such as HIPAA/PHI and PCI is preferred
Communication and leadership. Excellent communication skills for conveying technical concepts to non‑technical audiences; ability to mentor teams and lead architecture reviews; strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in fast‑paced, collaborative environments
Experience with and comfort in working in an emerging company environment
Proven ability to define and drive the strategic AI/ML direction and roadmap at the enterprise level
Flexibility to adapt quickly to emerging opportunities or new market data
Passion for innovation and identifying/responding quickly to identified market opportunities
Extremely collaborative and team-oriented
Experience in writing proposals and technical milestones and scoping planning for projects
Experience leading workshops, and training sessions, and presenting technical solutions to diverse audiences
AWS Solution Architect - Associate Certification (required within 6 months of hire)
AWS Specialty Certification - Machine Learning (required within 1 year of hire)
