Research Cyber Infrastructure Engineer

Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain secure cyber infrastructure that supports the institution's research initiatives and protects sensitive data
Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential threats to the cyber infrastructure and implement appropriate security measures
Monitor and analyze network performance and security metrics to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of research data and systems
Develop and maintain documentation related to cyber infrastructure architecture, configurations, and security protocols for compliance and training purposes
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for cyber infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal disruption to research activities and workflows
Stay current with advancements in cybersecurity technologies and methodologies to enhance the institution's cyber defense capabilities
Conduct training sessions for researchers and staff on best practices for data security and effective use of cyber infrastructure resources
Collaborate with external vendors and partners to evaluate and integrate new technologies that improve the institution's research cyber infrastructure
Collaborate with researchers to identify specific cyber infrastructure needs and develop solutions that facilitate their project requirements
Perform other duties as assigned
Provide technical support through allocating systems resources, managing accounts, administering passwords, documentation, security, recoverability and access including deploying security and operating system patches, for all of PACE supported servers
Provide technical leadership of the configuration management tools in use by PACE, defining roadmaps for new functionality, features, and integration to other tools in use by PACE, the office of information technology (OIT) and other areas of Georgia Tech
Participate in change planning and implementation
Conduct needs analysis, planning and scheduling the installation of a wide variety of new or modified hardware/software
Monitor, analyze and reports on system performance
Support internal departmental servers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience
6+ years of relevant experience
Preferred
Technical leadership skills
Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience
Red Hat Linux System Administration, 3-5 years' experience
Configuration and automation management systems (Puppet, SaltStack, Ansible), at least 2 years' experience
Large Unix based system administration; experience managing environments larger than 100 servers
Scripting and programming languages, 3-5 years' experience
3-5 years' experience managing TCP/IP based networks
Understanding of Infiniband interconnections and topologies
Project management foundations
Information technology infrastructure library (ITIL): operations, change, release, configuration, incident and problem management. Understanding and knowledge of the complete framework preferred, with emphasis on service support
Good communication skills
bachelor's degree in engineering or computer related area
