1st Shift Controls Engineer - Lower Nazareth, PA

Responsibilities
Understand and abide by all Company safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ensure that safe and sanitary working conditions are maintained in the facility in accordance with Company standards, as well as state & federal laws and regulations. Know and understand your OSHA rights. Conduct safety training topics as required or needed. Responsible for attending all assigned safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions. As required, promptly investigate accidents and near misses, completing appropriate reports and taking action to eliminate root causes
Support daily production schedules through the timely troubleshooting and repair of faulty equipment, both electrical and mechanical in nature (e.g. PLCs, HMIs, sensors, servo motors, wiring, etc.)
Conduct root cause analysis of machine faults and maintenance repairs with recommendations for process or machinery improvements
Collect and analyze data to ensure machine performance is maintained and to identify opportunities for improvement
Work with Engineering team to identify, support, and lead projects focused on improving the safety, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment, automation, and processes
Design and implement automation improvements such as integrating sensors, controls devices, or other electrical upgrades. Modify PLC programs to support upgraded equipment as necessary
Maintain documentation for electrical systems, schematics, and control logic
Perform cost analyses and writes justifications for proposed capital projects
Examine and approve engineering drawings, design computations, etc. to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and safe operating standards, codes and regulations
Inspect materials, workmanship, as well as mechanical and electrical installations for conformance to plans and specification
Develop and maintain effective lines of communication between manufacturing personnel, supervisory personnel, engineering team, management, and outside contacts as required
Assist in maintaining spare part inventories, to include cataloguing of components and suggesting items to be on stock as equipment history is obtained
Support the development, implementation, and enhancement of an effective preventative maintenance (PM) program to ensure consistent equipment performance
Qualification
Required
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology field; or equivalent work experience in an automated manufacturing environment
Experience with industrial automation, PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred), and electrical troubleshooting
Knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices
Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Familiarity with control systems, sensors, vision systems (e.g., Keyence), and robotics (e.g., FANUC) is a plus
Technical Knowledge
Experience in the maintenance of automated assembly equipment and its operation to include electro/mechanical troubleshooting of pneumatics and industrial controls and the ability to facilitate necessary repairs once issues are properly identified
Strong ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and electro-mechanical systems using test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) and diagnostic tools
Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) and integration of sensors, actuators, and safety devices into control systems
Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, machine manuals, and engineering drawings to support maintenance and improvement initiatives
Ability to use computers and available software to maintain records and prepare technical reports
Ability to communicate equipment issues to operations and manufacturing engineering staff in an accurate and technical manner
Continuous learner with motivation to stay current with emerging Manufacturing automation and control technologies
Understanding of PM and TPM strategies and how they relate to the management of industrial automation
Reasoning Ability
Ability to independently define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw logical conclusions, generate actionable steps, and execute based on that information
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Demonstrated skill in prioritizing multiple projects and balancing short-term repairs with long-term improvement initiatives
Language Skills
Ability to read, interpret, and create documents such as safety rules, electrical diagrams, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Operations and Engineering management
Capable of delivering technical training or presentations to Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance personnel on new equipment or upgrades
Communicate effectively using electronic media in written and verbal forms. Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups
Physical Demands
The employee will regularly be required to lift up to 40 lbs
The employee will occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and stand for extended periods of time
The employee will occasionally be required to work from heights through safe use of fall protection measures in accordance with OSHA standards
The employee will occasionally be required to climb ladders and steps to access elevated work platforms on the system
Ability to work alternate schedules to support project requirements, i.e., weekends, different shifts, etc
The employee will work in shop which is not temperature controlled
