Finishing Service Technician

The Finishing Service Technician is responsible for installing, training, repairing, and maintaining lens finishing systems and equipment at customer sites, ensuring customer satisfaction and equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites to install a wide range of ophthalmic & finishing equipment
Unpack, assemble, & test equipment prior to handoff
Connect systems to required power, water, drain, & network sources as applicable
Provide on-site instruction to operators on equipment use, maintenance, & troubleshooting
Communicate effectively with customers to ensure understanding of system operation & care
Diagnose & resolve equipment issues, coordinating with technical support when needed
Manage requests for part replacements & ensure prompt service resolution
Provide phone-based technical assistance to customers as required
Perform preventative maintenance & repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications
Record all service activities accurately in the Service Management Software
Partner with Technical Support, Sales, & Customer Service teams to ensure timely updates on service & installation status
Complete all required service documentation, reports, & paperwork accurately & on time
Maintain proper inventory of parts & tools
Provide technical assistance for trade shows, including equipment setup, connectivity, demonstrations, & teardown
Contribute feedback to improve installation processes & product design

Qualification

Required

Associate's Degree in Electronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
2–4 years of experience in technical field service, equipment installation, or repair—preferably within the optical, ophthalmic, or medical device industries
Ability to read & interpret schematics, diagrams, & technical manuals
Working knowledge of electrical & mechanical systems
Understanding of basic networking & TCP/IP protocols
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, & Service Management Systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP)
Comfort with mathematical & statistical concepts for troubleshooting & calibration
Ability to lift, move, & transport equipment up to 50 pounds safely, using appropriate tools or assistance as needed
Manual dexterity for handling small tools & components
Willingness & ability to travel frequently (up to 75%) with occasional overnight stays

Preferred

Experience in the ophthalmic, optical, or medical device industry
Experience with ophthalmic or optical finishing equipment
Familiarity with Practice Management System (PMS) integrations & equipment networking
Experience working in an ISO- or GMP-regulated environment
