Software Engineering Intern - Back End (Summer 2026)

They are seeking a Software Engineering Intern – Back End Developer to support the development of software applications for internal and commercial projects, including government contract work in homeland security.

Responsibilities

Works with other team members to design, build, modify, and implement software solutions
Follow functional requirements and documentation to code, modify and debug programs for assigned projects or functional areas
Support data management activities by creating database schemas, processing data, and performing data validation
Applies standard practices to analyze programs and formulate logic, prepare flowcharting, perform coding, and test/debug programs
Prepares and obtains approval of system and programming documentation
Additional duties include supporting test and evaluation of transportation security systems

Required

Must be currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related field of study
Must have at least two years of undergraduate coursework completed by the start of the internship
Familiarity with object-oriented concepts and programming languages such as, but not limited to, C#, Python, C++, or Java
Must be a self-starter, adaptable, able to dynamically change focus while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Active DOD Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain Transportation Security Administration Suitability

Preferred

Fundamental understanding of relational databases
Experience GUI programming
