Damage and Claims Specialist (Auto Transport)
Extreme Auto Transport is seeking a Damage and Claims Specialist to manage and process claims related to auto transport. The role involves investigating claims, determining responsibility, and negotiating settlements while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
Receive claim from customer, dealer, or internal team. Collect essential details: VIN, bill of lading, photos, delivery inspection reports, and timeline of events
Confirm shipment details and carrier responsibility. Validate that damage occurred during transport (not pre-existing or post-delivery)
Examine pre-load and post-delivery inspection sheets. Review driver notes, terminal reports, and any exceptions recorded during transit
Request photos from origin and destination. Interview driver, and terminal staff for incident details. Pull GPS or telematics data if needed to verify route and handling
Determine how damage occurred: Loading/unloading error? Securing failure (straps/chains)? Environmental factors (weather, road conditions)? Equipment malfunction? Identify patterns or recurring issues
Decide if carrier, subcontractor, or third party is responsible. Check insurance coverage and contractual obligations
Lead investigations into workplace incidents, driving accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions
Calculate repair costs or replacement value. Negotiate settlement with customer or OEM. Process payment, subrogation or credit according to company policy
Log claim details in claims management system. Generate trend reports for management. Recommend corrective actions (training, equipment checks, process changes)
Qualification
Required
3-6 years of experience in processing damage claims within an auto transportation business
Knowledgeable of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations & DOT
Strong analytical and root cause problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in root cause analysis to identify areas for improvement
Ability to analyze data and identify trends regarding safety and risk
Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Auto Transportation knowledge required
Preferred
Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), Magnus is preferred
