Responsibilities
Conducts departmental activities to meet the goals, objectives and policies of the pharmacy department
Participates in improvements in interdepartmental policies and procedures which support the Pharmacy Department and Hospital's strategic goals. Maintains accurate records as required by departmental policies/procedures and federal/state board regulations
Completes all core competencies and documents clinical activities accurately according to policies and procedures. Supports the Investigational Drug Service in daily operations
Serves as the medication expert in the Emergency Department and provides time-sensitive, accurate information for healthcare providers in acute scenarios
Provides pharmaceutical preparation, dosing recommendations, and plays a vital role in resuscitation efforts during medical emergencies
Completes pharmacotherapy drug class reviews, formal in-services, formulary additions/deletions, assimilation of evidence-based protocols/order sets, medication safety activities, and targeted medication expense reductions
Oversees the medication reconciliation program and assists in performing medication reconciliation and education for patients at high risk for medication-related problems
Serves as the pharmacy representative on multidisciplinary committees involving the Emergency Department and develops ED-specific educational programs, protocols, standard operating procedures, and order sets
Educates healthcare providers on approved treatment guidelines and criteria to increase appropriate and cost-effective use of medications in the Emergency Department
Serves as a preceptor for Pharmacy School Students and Pharmacy Residents
Qualification
Required
Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
Completion of PGY-1 residency or 2 years of demonstrated clinical experience required
Current Maryland State License
Preferred
Completion of PGY-2 residency or board certification in emergency medicine or critical care preferred
