PBX Communications Operator

Douglas County, Nebraska is seeking a PBX Communications Operator to manage telephone operations and alarm systems. Responsibilities

Operate a multiline computer console and determine incoming call priority for Douglas County, the City of Omaha and other allied government entities, ensuring calls completed accurately and efficiently, and transferring screened calls to appropriate areas
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment
Serve as primary source of referral and information for the public and employees
Monitor and respond to various alarms determining magnitude, prioritizing need, and initiating DCHC action codes; contacting designated/on-call personnel (e.g. coroner, physicians, nurses, disaster coordinator, health department) and relaying critical information
Log information (e.g. incoming/outgoing calls, alarms, incoming faxes), obtaining necessary documentation
Notify security staff and/or designee regarding potentially dangerous situations
Complete outgoing calls and relay applicable information
Contact appropriate individuals upon the arrival of emergency or other vehicles, completing charge slips
Announce DCHC notifications via intercom system
Receive calls regarding material safety data sheets (MSDS), search database for MSDS information, identify appropriate item, print information and fax to requesting parties
Respond to mental health calls (e.g. suicide, voluntary admission requests), forwarding to Lasting Hope or 911
Perform clerical duties (e.g. typing, filing)
Participate in community disaster drills
Participate in department quality assurance and improvement activities
Perform other duties as assigned and directed

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required
One (1) year of multiline telephone console experience required
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required
Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis
