Traffic Sign Maker

Responsibilities
Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, miles driven, fuel and oil used, and/or other related information
Removes, installs, and maintains City signs, signposts, and other traffic control devices as needed; removes damaged or old signs and signposts; operates equipment associated with this work such as post drivers, post pullers, and various hand tools
Designs and produces standardized and specialized signs through the use of modern sign-making equipment and digital technology
Maintains and cleans sign, marking, signal, and streetlight shops, tools, and equipment
Responds to emergency call outs for the repair of signs
Monitors and maintains materials, inventory, and supplies
Reads and interprets blueprints; installs signs
Performs computer aided graphics and art design work; makes decisions on letter size, spacing, length, width of sign, and size of sign, and amount of sheeting to be used
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
Performs snow and ice removal
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
3 year's experience in sign making or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Ohio Commercial Driver's License or able to obtain one within (6) months of hire
Knowledge of applicable State and local vehicle ordinances
Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
Knowledge of basic construction practices
Knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and methods of assigned specialty area
Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions
Knowledge of maintenance equipment
Knowledge of variety of hand and power tools
Knowledge of safe work practices
Skill in operating automated screen printer
Skill in operating letter-cutting machine, cutting table, squeeze roller, drill press, and all associated sign shop equipment and hand tools
Skill in using a computer and related software applications
Ability to perform manual labor
Ability to perform minor electrical work
Ability to work in high places
Ability to maintain small to medium-sized equipment and trucks
Ability to complete paperwork and documentation in a timely manner
Ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and area circumference and volume
Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
