Land Surveyor
NEOGOV is seeking a Land Surveyor for the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation and Mobility. Responsibilities
Organizes, directs, and oversees field and office surveying for transportation and mobility projects, including roadway design, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, and infrastructure improvements, coordinates with engineers, planners, GIS personnel, consultants, and contractors
Performs and supervises boundary, control, topographic, GPS, and construction surveys; establish property, easement, and right-of-way lines; uses advanced survey equipment such as GNSS, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors
Prepares, signs, and seals boundary surveys, subdivision plats, legal descriptions, and other documents requiring a licensed surveyor’s certification; reviews and certifies work prepared by staff or external consultants for technical accuracy and legal compliance
Maintains compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes, City standards, and professional ethics; ensures survey control, coordinates systems, and survey data accuracy meet City and Pima County GIS/geodetic standards; maintains survey records, control databases, and archived field notes
Analyzes and interprets deeds, maps, plats, and records data to establish or reestablish property boundaries; integrate survey data into design and mapping systems; provide surveying expertise for capital improvement and infrastructure projects
Supervises Survey Section personnel, including scheduling, performance evaluations, timekeeping, and hiring assistance; guide, support, and mentor staff in completing project tasks and enforcing quality assurance procedures
Communicates with property owners, utilities, consultants, and government agencies to resolve boundary, right-of-way, and survey-related issues; represents the City in technical meetings and public forums regarding survey and mapping matters
Maintains current professional licensure and stay updated on surveying technology, laws, and practices
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned to support DTM projects
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree
Three (3) years of directly related experience
A valid and unrestricted Class D Driver's License
Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) - Arizona Board of Technical Registration (ABTR) within (1) one year of employment
LSIT Required at time of application
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
Five (5) years licensed as an Arizona Land Surveyor
Advanced coursework or certification in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), Civil/Transportation Engineering, or Project Management
Experience performing or managing survey work for transportation infrastructure, including roadway, bridge, drainage, and right-of-way projects
Experience supervising field and office survey crews, managing budgets, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
Strong background in boundary resolution, legal descriptions, and easement/right-of-way acquisition documentation
Experience coordinating with state and local agencies such as ADOT, Pima County, or other municipal jurisdictions
Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, presenting findings, and coordinating with property owners, contractors, and public officials
