Solar Technician
Consult Energy Inc. is a leading commercial and community solar developer seeking a Solar Field Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize commercial solar systems across multiple sites. The role involves performing electrical maintenance, safety leadership, and field documentation while traveling to various project sites in Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
Perform corrective maintenance on inverters, combiners, transformers, switchgear, and balance-of-system components
Diagnose electrical faults, ground faults, performance issues, and communication failures
Coordinate with Asset Manager for outages and system performance optimization
Document all electrical work per company standards
Conduct annual and quarterly preventative maintenance including torque checks, infrared (IR) thermal scans, firmware updates, minor corrective work, diagnostic IV curve tracing (if needed), and equipment inspections
Ensure OEM maintenance is completed to comply with warranty requirements
Serve as on-site safety lead: enforce LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), PPE, arc-flash boundaries, energized work protocols, and OSHA/NEC compliance
Conduct pre-work safety meetings and ensure all contractors follow safety procedures
Lead incident reporting and root-cause investigations for electrical safety events
Complete detailed field service reports including equipment photos, test results, service dates, and corrective actions performed
Record and store field work documentation in centralized drive
Keep components, spare parts reserves, and inventory logs up to date; report to Asset Manager for replenishment
Qualification
Required
~5 years of electrical experience in commercial or industrial settings
Licensed Journeyman Electrician in MA (strongly preferred)
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with inverters, switchgear, transformers, and BOS components
Solid understanding of OSHA, NEC, and electrical safety protocols
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regionally (2 days home, rest of week in the field)
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions on rooftops and elevated structures
Preferred
Commercial solar experience (rooftop and carport systems, 100kW-1MW+ range)
Previous experience with solar O&M, preventative maintenance programs, or asset management
Familiarity with solar monitoring systems, SCADA platforms, or remote diagnostics
Experience with IR scanning, torque testing, and IV curve tracing
