Case Analyst

The Innocence Project is dedicated to freeing the innocent and preventing wrongful convictions. The Case Analyst is responsible for evaluating potential innocence claims and conducting thorough reviews of case documents to present findings to the Legal Department.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze correspondence and documents related to criminal cases to determine whether DNA testing could prove the innocence of an individual convicted of a crime
Produce a written evaluation for each case including analysis of the facts, history of the case, evidence collected and possibilities for testing to prove innocence
Present evaluated cases at meetings with Intake and Legal Department staff
Coordinate with staff attorneys, paralegals, and students to ensure effective transition of accepted cases to the Legal Department
Manage, continuously, a docket of cases at the middle and final stage of evaluation
Review law firm evaluations and provide feedback, as needed
Ensure that all communications, correspondence and documents are properly tracked and stored
Collaborate with Document Managers to procure and assemble case files with documents necessary for analysis (transcripts, appeals, laboratory and investigative reports, correspondence)
Field inquiries from potential clients and their family members via written, electronic and phone correspondence
Coordinate case review with intake staff at local innocence projects as appropriate
Work on special projects, as needed, such as process improvements or historical case analysis

Required

Must have a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least one (1) year of work experience
Must have experience synthesizing information into long form memos or other writing projects
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
Deploys exceptional logical reasoning skills by breaking down complex situations into digestible and identifiable components
Embodies strong organizational and planning skills that entails prioritizing key components of a task while maintaining quality of work and attention to details
Demonstrates a sincere and positive attitude towards getting things done and proactively acts to resolve challenges
