The MAI Project Director/SUD Counselor is responsible for managing the Minority AIDS Initiative grant and conducting counseling for substance use disorders, ensuring compliance with policies and delivering effective client services.

Responsibilities

Manage MAI grant activities performed by the Program Coordinator and Program Assistant
Participate in developing grant budget and manage expenses to that budget
Ensure accurate and complete data collection and reporting
Participate in community outreach activities as needed
Ensure accurate and complete reporting of all required grant activities
Manage a caseload of approximately 15 adults at any given time
Responsible for completing intakes and assessments for new consumers
Responsible for linking clients as they transition through the levels of care, ensuring that the treatment plan is formulated
Provides oversight of linkages to off-site services to meet additional needs related to a co-occurring medical and/or psychiatric condition, as documented in the treatment plan
Monitor the compliance with, and effectiveness of, services over the treatment period and make a determination of the frequency of ongoing assessments
Provide Individual, Family, and Group Counseling; Group-based Psychoeducation, according to the client’s assessed needs
Adheres to Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s documentation and billing requirements
Perform other duties as assigned
Meet assigned weekly/monthly productivity requirements

Required

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or substance abuse/addiction counseling
Minimum Certified Addiction Counselor 1 (CAC1)
Demonstrated knowledge of EBIs and DEBIs as they relate to HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, substance use, mental health issues, high-risk groups, social networking, etc
CPR/First Aid certification must be acquired and maintained once employed
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to use independent judgment and address conflict and find resolutions
Demonstrated ability to make decisions, exercise good judgment, and work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload
Strong public speaking and organizational skills

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
1+ years of managerial and supervisory experience preferred
Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus but not required
Experience in Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Approach, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is preferred
