Responsibilities
Provide oversight and accountability for a significant regional portfolio of company-owned and/or Production Partner farrow-to-finish production farms
Train, teach, and coach on a daily basis to ensure consistent implementation of best practices on the farms that drive productivity, optimize efficiency, promote sustainability, and safeguard the well-being of the animals
Establish team excellence in production planning, scheduling, and execution of standard work, operational efficiency, and driving results
Understand company vision and successfully manage change on the farm to support innovation and drive continuous improvement
Plan production and set goals for all farms within assigned region while ensuring the implementation of standard operating procedures through routine farm visits and formal farm audits
Ensure that Farm Managers and Production Managers are utilizing system tools to maintain accurate production records while fostering a culture of lean continuous improvement and efficiency in all operations
Monitor and track production performance at each farm to ensure achievement of goals
Support Farm Managers and Production Managers to implement technologies and other innovations to improve production and promote the implementation of all improvement protocols
Daily foster a culture of lean continuous improvement and efficiency in all operations
Support Production Partners and employees implement technologies and other innovations to improve production
Participate in routine periodic management meetings and effectively communicate issues through chain of command
Routinely review operating costs and performance for production farms within assigned scope of responsibility
Maintain sharp focus on daily management to reduce controllable costs
Support field reporting systems that drive analysis and reporting of key success factors
Collaborate with Health Services to establish farm-specific biosecurity plans
Comply with all company and farm-level standard work that promotes bio-security
Collaborate with Health Services to implement preventative and therapeutic health treatment programs
Ensure implementation of individual pig care practices to maintain health and well-being of all animals under our care
Provide direct leadership to a tactical management team through strong communication, goal setting, and routine coaching of management behaviors
Establish and implement a formal performance management program for all team members to drive performance, reinforce positive behaviors, and enhance leadership
Implement on-boarding, training, and coaching programs to develop technical and leadership capacity within the team, with emphasis on development of employees and Production Partners
Partner with Human Resources for hiring, staffing, discipline, and terminations
Promote safe work habits and a safe working environment
Ensure that all work-related injuries are properly reported and documented
Work with Animal Housing resources to identify building and equipment repair needs
Support the team to facilitate major capital repairs, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance programs
Ensure that Farm Managers are attending to barn facility housekeeping and routine low-level maintenance
Implement best management practices for environmental stewardship
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or GED required at a minimum
5 years swine production or related experience with at least 3 in a production management role
Knowledge of Bio-Security precautions relating to pork production facilities
Skill in washing equipment with high powered washers
Skill in hooking/unhooking various commercial Trucks/trailer units, raising and lowering the landing gear, operating the 5th wheel release lever
Ability to lift & pull up to 50 to 75 pounds
Ability to handle exposure to dust, noise, odors, and temperature extremes
Ability to operate power washer
Ability to stand/stoop and remain alert for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours with a 1 hour break
Ability to perform squatting, kneeling, bending and climbing during the wash process
Ability to properly enter and exit the vehicle's 10 to 20 times per day
Ability to use a shovel to move and/or clean a load of material
Ability to occasionally reach above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls
Ability to spend at least 10% of the day standing and 90% of the day working on surfaces such as concrete, metal and on slippery and wet surfaces
Preferred
Associates Degree in Animal Science or related field preferred
B.S. Degree highly preferred
