Responsibilities
Design, document, and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures aligned with company goals and regulatory requirements
Define data classification schemes, ownership models, and lifecycle management practices consistent with industry standards and regulations
Set data quality standards and monitoring mechanisms; collaborate with data stewards to identify and resolve quality issues
Develop and enforce policies and controls to ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR
Implement processes to maintain data lineage, definitions, and dependencies; establish data dictionaries and catalogs
Promote a culture of data stewardship; provide training and guidance on governance principles and best practices
Conduct regular reviews and audits; monitor compliance and control effectiveness; report governance metrics to leadership
Oversee deployment of governance tools supporting lineage, metadata management, and quality monitoring
Lead monthly forums with senior stakeholders to provide transparency on data and analytics initiatives
Influence business, data, and product leaders to foster a culture of effective data management
Collaborate with Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Platform Engineering teams to integrate governance into technology initiatives
Take personal accountability for delivering on commitments
Maintain transparency through regular communication on progress
Seek cost-effective solutions leveraging technology partners and expertise
Foster an innovative and creative team culture focused on practical business impact
Qualification
Required
Extensive experience in data governance, data management, or related roles
Minimum 4 years in data governance or management, including coaching and project delivery experience
Strong knowledge of data governance principles, frameworks, and regulatory requirements
Proficiency with data management tools like cataloging, quality, and governance platforms
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bachelor's or advanced degree in MIS, Computer Science, Data & Analytics, or related field
Preferred
Certifications such as DM-BOK or CDMP are a plus
Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous
